Ruby came to us lunging at every dog within sight and a few she only imagined. Eleven weeks later she walks the Discovery Lake loop on a loose leash with the pack.

The Dog

BEFORE
A year of walking at ten at night
Ruby's owner had not walked her in daylight for almost a year. She went out late, checked both ends of the street first, and moved fast. It had not started that way. Ruby came home at eighteen months, good with people and easy in the house. Then a loose dog came at them on a sidewalk one afternoon, and after that Ruby saw dogs everywhere. At the end of the block. Behind parked cars. Sometimes where there were none. By the time she called us, she had been pulled off her feet twice and had started turning down invitations that involved leaving the house for long. On the phone, she apologized for her dog. People do that a lot, and it is usually the point where they have decided the problem is them.
WHAT WE SAW
Ruby was not being difficult. She was frightened.
We walked her own street, because that is where the problem lives. A dog who is calm in a quiet room with me tells me nothing.
It took about ten minutes. Everything Ruby was doing made sense once you saw it as fear rather than defiance, and almost everything happening around that fear had been quietly making it larger. None of it was anyone's fault. It is simply very hard to see from inside it.
That is the whole reason reactivity work starts with an assessment instead of a lesson plan. We are not there to teach commands. We are there to work out what your dog is actually telling you.
"My life with my dog is pure joy."

WHERE ARE THEY NOW
Managed, not cured
Ruby still notices dogs. She probably always will, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. What changed is what she does about it. She looks, she checks in, and she keeps walking.

Every reactive dog starts with an assessment
We meet your dog where the behavior actually shows up, not in a training room. You will leave that first session knowing what we are working with and what the plan is.
